Transfer of CMY-2 Cephalosporinase from Escherichia coli to Virulent Klebsiella pneumoniae Causing a Recurrent Liver Abscess.

A CMY-2-producing capsular type K2 Klebsiella pneumoniae strain (TVGHKP93) with multidrug resistance was isolated from a recurrent liver abscess in a patient who also carried a CMY-2-producing Escherichia coli strain (TVGHEC01) in the stool. TVGHKP93 retained its high virulence compared with that of the isogenic strain (TVGHKP60) with wild-type resistance from the first liver abscess. Our conju...

Detection and Analysis of Klebsiella pneumoniae causing Liver Abscess

In recent years, Klebsiella pneumoniae strains have become the second largest bacteria after the E. coli in China causing community-acquired infections and nosocomial infection [1]. The K. pneumoniae strains commonly recognized by clinicians and microbiologists are termed classic K. pneumoniae (cKP). Such strains are notorious for their capacity to cause nosocomial infections Detection and Anal...

Recurrent Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess: clinical and microbiological characteristics.

Recurrent Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscesses (KLAs) are rarely reported. Six cases of recurrent KLAs are characterized. Most of the patients had diabetes and K1 serotype KLAs. All of the isolates were uniformly susceptible to cefazolin. Distinct molecular fingerprints were found for the strains isolated from both primary and recurrent KLAs.

Plasmid-mediated and inducible cephalosporinase DHA-2 from Klebsiella pneumoniae.

A Klebsiella pneumoniae strain resistant to cefoxitin and oxyimino-cephalosporins was cultured from a child hospitalized in Paris, France, in 1992. This isolate harboured a beta-lactamase gene located on an approximately 200 kb non-self-transferable plasmid. The beta-lactamase identified, DHA-2, shared 99% amino acid identity with the AmpC enzyme of Morganella morganii. DHA-2 was a point-mutant...
